Effective date: April 15, 2026
Vroomist ("we", "our", or "us") is a vehicle performance measurement app for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Vroomist app.
Vroomist connects to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) GPS devices, or uses your iPhone's built-in GPS, to record and analyze vehicle performance metrics, including sprint times, drag racing distances, and GPS logs. By using Vroomist, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The app is intended for users aged 13 and older.
When you use Vroomist with a connected BLE GPS device or the device's internal GPS, we collect:
You may optionally attach free-text notes to any sprint, drag, or GPS log measurement. These notes are entirely user-entered, stored only locally on your device alongside the related measurement, and never transmitted off the device. Please avoid including personally identifiable information about yourself or others in these notes.
To calculate environmental context such as density altitude, the app reads atmospheric pressure from your device's built-in barometer (part of iOS's Core Motion framework). The barometer reading is combined with the weather data described below and stored locally with the associated measurement. This data is not transmitted off the device.
To provide context for your measurements (such as density altitude calculations), the app periodically fetches current weather conditions for your location. To do this, your approximate geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to the Open-Meteo weather API. Open-Meteo returns:
No other personal or device information is transmitted to Open-Meteo. The returned weather values are stored locally alongside your measurements. See the "Third-Party Services" section for details about Open-Meteo.
In a future version, subscription status will be managed entirely through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We will not collect or store any payment information such as credit card numbers or billing addresses.
The current version of Vroomist only uses local notifications, which are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. In a future version, we may introduce remote (push) notifications delivered through Apple's Push Notification service (APNs). If we enable this, your device will receive an Apple-issued push token that is sent to our notification backend solely for the purpose of delivering notifications to your device. No additional personal information will be collected, and you will be able to disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
The app generates diagnostic logs for debugging purposes. These logs are stored locally on your device and are also forwarded to Firebase Crashlytics to help diagnose issues in case of a crash.
We collect anonymous usage statistics and performance data through Firebase services to improve app stability, performance, and user experience. This includes:
This analytics data is pseudonymous — Firebase associates events with a device-generated identifier (Apple's IDFV) but we do not collect or link directly identifying personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number.
In a future version, we may offer user accounts for cloud sync functionality. This would involve collecting your email address and authentication credentials.
We use the information we collect to:
We take the security of your data seriously. Here is how your information is protected:
Future: When cloud storage is introduced, data will be protected using industry-standard encryption both in transit (TLS) and at rest.
In a future version, we will use Apple's In-App Purchase system to process subscriptions. Apple will handle all payment processing according to their own Privacy Policy.
If you use the Vroomist Apple Watch companion app, real-time speed and measurement data is synced between your iPhone and Apple Watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework.
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data to help us understand how the app is used and improve the user experience. Data collected includes event counts (e.g., device connections, measurements recorded), user preferences (unit settings), and session information. No personally identifiable information is collected.
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and non-fatal error events, helping us identify and fix issues more quickly. These reports include device model, OS version, app state, and recent diagnostic log messages. In addition to full crashes, the app logs recoverable errors (such as failed database operations or unexpected internal states) as non-fatal events so we can detect and fix them without the app needing to crash. No GPS data, measurement results, notes, or personal information is included in these reports.
We use Firebase Performance Monitoring to measure app performance, including startup time, screen rendering, network request latency, and custom operation durations (such as database operations and data export). This data is anonymized and used solely to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
We use Firebase Remote Config to deliver configuration updates to the app without requiring an app store update. This service fetches configuration values from Firebase servers. No personal data is sent to Firebase as part of this process.
We use the Open-Meteo weather API to obtain ambient weather conditions (temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure) used for environmental context of your measurements, including density altitude calculations. Each weather request transmits your approximate geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) to Open-Meteo's servers. No account, identifier, measurement data, or other personal information is sent. Open-Meteo is operated by Zippenfenig Software & Services (Germany, EU). Please refer to the Open-Meteo Terms & Privacy for details.
If we implement any form of tracking in the future, we will request your explicit consent through Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework before any tracking occurs.
